2003   No. 15.

The Animal Diseases (Selective Importation of Livestock, Livestock Products, Co-Products and By-Products) Regulations, 2003.

(Under section 21 and 22(f) of the Animal Diseases Act, of1964 Cap 218).

In exercise of the powers conferred on the Minister by section 21 and 22 (f) of the Animal Diseases Act, these Regulations are made this 31st day of March, 2003.

1.                       Citation.

These Regulations may be cited as the Animal Diseases (Selective Importation of Livestock, Livestock Products, Co-Products and By-Products) Regulations, 2003.

2.                       Restrictions on importation

(1)                   No person shall import—

(a)                   Bovines;

(b)                   Bovine embryos, ova and semen;

(c)                   Fresh meat, meat products and other meat preparations from cattle; or

(d)                    Ruminant derived protein feeds, bone and meat meal, from a country

which is not free from Bovine spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) or a country which does not comply with OIE Guidelines for the prevention of BSE.

(2)                    Countries which are free from BSE are listed in the Schedule to these regulations; except that the Minister may, from time to time add to or remove from the said schedule the name of a country.

3.                       General ban on importation lifted

Subject to Regulation 2 of these Regulations, the general ban on importation of livestock, livestock products or by-products imposed by S.I No. 3 of 1997 is hereby lifted.

4.                       Repeal of S.I No. 3 of 1997.

The Declaration of Suspension on Importation of Livestock, Livestock Products and By-Products due to Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), S.I No. 2 of 1997 is repealed.
